YY-Technology Distribution

Hormone Sex reversal is held responsible for weakening Tilapias immune system. Diseases (Parasites, Franchisella, Streptococcus, Tilapia Lake virus) follow up faster and faster. Nowadays it is clear that these hormones have a genotoxic effect.

Til-Aqua has decided to bring the complete Natural Male Tilapia (NMT) Genetics to the industry to produce continuously their own YY-males to use with their own female line or genetic improved strains (GIFT™, GST™, Spring Genetics™) or Til-Aquas’.

Small-scale Tilapia hatchery

Being the prime tilapia hatchery within Europe, Til-Aqua International is receiving many enquiries from small-scale producers and institutes for high quality tilapia fry and fingerlings. However, the limited number of fish per order often causes additional costs to be relatively high for each transport again (f.i. transport and documentation). To support also these facilities, Til-Aqua International has developed the Small-scale Tilapia Hatchery.

Tilapia Improvement Program (TIP)

The effect of a well-designed breeding program is often underestimated. Performance can be improved with >10% for each generation. Til-Aqua International is offering a complete package of hardware and expertise that can be easily implemented.

To increase performance and benefits; in the next generation and many more to come!

Health Report

As a renown and experienced exporter of tilapia fry and fingerlings, Til-Aqua International notices the hesitance that has risen with authorities and governments to import live fish. Being a closed facility for over 20 years combined with high bio-security standards are ensuring no threats can enter our site. Nonetheless the Til-Aqua International fish are being tested on a regular base with invariable results: our fish are confirmed to be free of various frequent diseases!

This perfect health status is assuring authorities and customers to safely import Til-Aqua International genetics!

Til-Aqua – The Concept (Basic Hatchery setup)

Til-Aqua International has been producing All Male seeds for the Tilapia industry world-wide in a very intensive way since 1995. Our hatcheries are based in The Netherlands with relatively high costs for energy and labor. This forced us to develop a very efficient Tilapia Hatchery Management System. Next to that, we are aware there is a demand for well-functioning hatcheries with a relatively low initial investment.

Improving Hatchery Performance

With its vast experience of more than 25 years, Til-Aqua International has come across numerous issues in both our own facilities as well as in our customers’ facilities. Tackling these issues one by one has provided our company with the expertise to optimally run a tilapia hatchery and nursery!

Hatchery-Nursery Training Course

Til-Aqua International has developed a hands-on educational program to transfer its knowledge and vast practical experience in hatchery & nursery management. Looking to start up your own facilities or improve management practices?
Prevent or overcome challenges by becoming well-educated and well-prepared!

Til-Aqua opens doors for research

Worldwide, the tilapia industry is the fastest growing industry in the aquaculture sector. An annual production of over 6,000,000 metric tons, clearly shows tilapia is a booming species. The rapid development of this industry is bringing new opportunities and threats which can be met by innovative products. Validating the effects of such a product provides better insight in its functioning as well as  increased reliability.

Characterizing the genetic structure of introduced nile tilapia (oreochromis niloticus) strains in Tanzania using double digest rad sequencing

A genetic analyses of the Silver strain of Til-Aqua has been made by an international group of researchers (See link above). This research revealed a higher genetic variation in the case of animals that originated from selective breeding programs like the YY- strain from Til-Aqua. The research also proved that the genetic inbreeding coefficient (Fis) of the examined strains was the lowest for the fish from Til-Aqua. This is due to the fact that the NMT is always a combination of two genetic strains, a mixed sex line and the YY-line. This combination results in a so called heterosis effect.

The researchers also concluded that a higher genetic distance was found between the strain from the Netherlands (silver-YY strain) with the strains from Uganda (Fst, 0.38–0.44), compared with the strains from Thailand (Fst, 0.26–0.30). The researchers also concluded that ”regarding the silver-YY strain from Netherlands, both STRUCTURE and DAPC suggested the existence of an isolated cluster”. This is in accordance with the fact that the strains of Til-Aqua are under their own selection program for over 20  years, and that no other genetics have entered the farm since the original imports. This has resulted in their own geographical isolated genetic cluster.
